Why I Love ... Wednesday!

It's Wednesday!! I have been seriously remiss in my attention to Alexis' meme but today I'm back on track. Why I Love ... Wednesday is hosted by Reflexions of a Bookaholic and is one of my personal faves. Today's topic is ... Book Challenges.

First, let me say that book challenges can get me in a lot of trouble. I tend to want to join them all. I have judiciously selected the ones I am participating in this year because I know that, if I'm not careful, I will overrun myself with challenges and have no time for anything else. They give me both structure and flexibility in one sweet package and that makes me happy. The number one reason I love book challenges is the feeling of accomplishment I get when I complete them.

OK - on to my favourite. This year (and it may change for next year, who knows) my favourite book challenge is the 'Back to the Classics Challenge 2012' hosted by Sarah Reads too Much.

Reasons: I love classics but I never seem to make time to read them and there are so many I haven't read that I want to get to. Now I am 'forced' to read a few. The other plus is that Sarah didn't leave us to our own devices. There are lots of classics out there and I would have likely chosen ones by authors I knew, or with titles that were most familiar to me ... but ... this challenge has structure:
  • Any 19th Century Classic
  • Any 20th Century Classic
  • Reread a classic of your choice
  • A Classic Play
  • Classic Mystery/Horror/Crime Fiction
  • Classic Romance
  • Read a Classic that has been translated from its original language to your language 
  • Classic Award Winner 
  • Read a Classic set in a Country that you (realistically speaking) will not visit during your lifetime 
And yet I have the flexibility of choosing from a multitude of books that fall into each category. I have already completed the horror requirement with Bram Stoker's Dracula.

What challenges have you signed up for this year? If you are currently challenge free - there is still lots of time to sign up and complete a challenge this year. I highly recommend giving it a try.

    I signed up for a few and I am already failing, sure I am doing well in them but I am not updating. I forget

    As long as you're keeping up you can always update a bunch at a time when you get around to it, though. That's not failing! You are doing great!

    I only signed up for two challenges this year. I didn't want to feel pressured. I have a tiny authority complex. ;) Anywho, I didn't sign up for this one but I always try to manage a few classics each year.

    Sounds like a fun challenge that gives you ideas without imposing limits. I don't think you are wordy at all. I enjoyed this post.
