TBR Tuesday Disappointment

Back a few weeks ago, the book I spotlighted on TBR Tuesday was The Observations by Jane Harris. I have been interested in this book for quite some time now and was thrilled when it finally was 'checked in' at my local library. I cleared some time and started to read. It started out OK and I hoped it would get even better as I progressed. Sadly, I just can't get into it. I'm not sure why. The writing is fabulous and the story is mysterious but I'm just not up for it. I guess I'll put it away for awhile and try again at a later date.

Am I the only one this happens to? Which books have disappointed you? Have you ever put a book down and then later picked it up and found it was better than you thought at first try? I'm sincerely hoping that's what happens here.

  1. Sometimes I think we build these books up so much as we wait for them that they just don't have a chance! Sorry this one didn't work out for you!

Here is this week's TBR Tuesday post

    Happy Reading!

  3. This always happens to me. I think I just let my expectations too high and then it ruins everything! Sigh. Sorry this one didn't do it for you.

  4. This happens to me at times to. Since I finish every book I read, I come back to it. Sometimes it turns out great like with The Book Thief but other times not so much. It usually happens when a book is just too slow in the beginning and all my excitement has escaped.

    1. I almost quit the Book Thief as well but was so glad I didn't. Love the book, now.

  5. This happens to me sometimes also. So, I'll take a break from the book and come back to it in a month or so. If I still can't get into the book, instead of letting it take up space, I'll find a place to donate it.

  6. Sometimes putting a book aside, and coming back to it at a later time works really well. It's happened a few times to me. I'm a huge mood reader, and have a hard time getting through a book I don't feel like reading.

  8. I usually just discard a book or give it away to someone who's interested if I can't go through the first 50 pages. No point forcing myself on a book that I know I'm not going to like.

  9. Hi Dana! Don't worry, I think this happens to all, specially if you read a lot. I usually read the first 50 pages, but if I don't like anything...I just give up. There are so many great books to read, I don't want to waste time reading something I'm not enjoying.

Sometimes I'm reading a book and I know I like it but I just don't feel like reading it, so I leave it on my bookshelf for a while and pick it up later :)
