Let's Judge a Book by it's Cover

Lately I've been feeling a little bored with the blog. So it's time to spike the punch! Before Let's Book It, I didn't spend much time considering cover art. That has changed. Covers are truly art and that means everyone has their own opinions as to what is good. Here's my proposal. I have chosen a few books strictly for their covers. Now I'd like you all to vote on which cover you like best - just the cover not the author, not the book. Got it? Good.

You have one week to vote. I will showcase the chosen cover next Friday, July 22. In that post I will also post the rules to enter to win the book with the winning cover. Sound like a plan? I thought so.

So here are your choices. I have avoided checking the synopses of any of them myself. It'll be like receiving a wrapped gift. You can enjoy the wrapping but no peeking. What's inside is a surprise.

Comment with your choice. One person, one vote. Click on the cover if you'd like to see a larger picture.

  6. Cool idea, tough choice. I like at least four of the covers but the top three would be: Land of the Painted Caves, Skirting the Grave and my number 1; The Map of Time, love the steampunk fantasy of it all.

  8. This is a dillema :). The Map of Time or The Land of Painted Caves? I'll go with The Land of Painted Caves because the colors are great.

  10. Skirting the Grave - because the dress reminds me of 1950s England. I was born in 1948 and am very nostalgic for that time.

  14. The Map of Time wins out for me. My second choice is Those Who Save Us, which is a wholly different effect, but the concept intrigues me. On the other hand, so does the concept of The Map of Time, and it's a much more visceral image. So, TMOT it is.

  15. Like many of your previous commenters, I am choosing Map of Time. The dark silhouette of the man, and the gauzy/foggy background, along with the fading bookshelves suggest an eery, mystical, and perhaps dangerous storyline. I would definitely pick up this book based on its cover alone. This is a great blog post idea Dana - what fun!

  17. WOW! That's a hard choice! I'd have to say my favorite of all is The Map of Time!

  18. Map of Time, yes. But Those Who Save Us is a close second.

  22. Definitely Map of Time. It has that mysterious, dark, eerie, Ebenezer Scrooge~ish feel. Love that!

  23. Not to be unoriginal, but Map of Time. I'd grab it immediately. It's mysterious with a promise of history, shivers, and fun.
However, the only two I wouldn't grab: Eve and The Land of Painted Caves. Too stylized.

  24. Definitely the Map of Time - so much so that I went to amazon to look it up! :) What a great idea for a post - I pick up books based on cover art (and sometimes even title font) all the time!
