Why I Love ... Wednesday!

Why I Love ... Wednesdays is a meme hosted by Alexis over at reflections of a bookaholic. Each Wednesday is an opportunity to explore a different aspect of literature and why I love it. Today's topic: Favorite reading season/weather.

I live in Canada. And not in the sissy southern part of Canada. And not in Vancouver. I live in north-central Alberta. We have up to 6 months of winter here and the winters are not nice. Did you know that -40 is -40 in both Celsius and Fahrenheit? And we get there every winter for a week or so. Most of our winter is spent below -20C (-4F). And we have snow. Last winter we had a LOT of snow. On top of all this, I do not ski. I tried once and it was a total disaster. So what do I do in the wintertime when all the world is white? I read. I curl up on the couch in my living room in front of the fire with my big, black dog at my feet and I lose myself in a good book. One that will take me far away from the winter for just a little while. Now here's the rub ... not only is winter my favorite reading season/weather, it is also my favorite season period. What can I say? There's just something about that white stuff that has me hooked.

For a fun visual: here's a picture of my 5'6" daughter shoveling our driveway last winter. Enjoy the sunshine, all!

  2. Holy Cow! I do NOT envy you. The only thing I like about snow is seeing it melt! But it does make for good snuggle down and read weather.

  3. Not a fan of winter, but that snow looks fun to play in. And I'm sure it causes many a lazy day spent reading a good book.

  4. I cannot imagine living there! I love the snow though. I live in South Louisiana. I would trade some of our humidity for a little of your coolness. Thanks for visiting, commenting, and following my blog. Looking forward to more visits. Donna

  5. Wow if southern Canada is the sissy part of Canada, I can't imagine what you would call Texas. I can't imagine winter for that long.

I previously lived in Chicago but wasn't there for long enough to see 6 months of winter. I can imagine the reading would be great though.

  6. wow! I live in a country where we only have summer....35C even when it's raining! Yesterday we had like 39C xD

Don't get me wrong. I love summer! A couple of months ago I was at a place with 4C and it was so cold! I can't imagine -20C! But I'd want to visit Canada sometime, if only for the snow. I've always wanted to see snow. Can you believe I've never touched snow?

  7. Oh Gabby, that's so sad. I really do love snow - even if I am rather tired of it by May!
