The Ideal Man

When I say Julie Garwood, if you have read her books, you already know what the book will be about. Hot guy meets hot girl under difficult circumstances, they fall in love and, despite some misunderstandings and hard times, they end up together. That's what 'The Ideal Man' is about. And it is good. If there were anything wrong with formulaic writing, many of the current popular authors would be out of work.

In this particular work, the brilliant Dr Ellie Sullivan, has not one but two maniacs trying to kill her and a sister who might just cheer them on if they succeed. FBI agent Max Daniels isn't going to let that happen. Of course he's the ideal man - and she is the ideal woman.

Ms Garwood has written another fun read. It is fast paced and the characters are quirky. The story line is easy to follow and there are some twists and turns along the way. If you are looking for a break from hard hitting, deep intellectual books. This book would be a good choice for an enjoyable few hours.

Maybe I am just getting old or overly cynical (or maybe I'm just in a weird mood today) but, despite enjoying the escape I found this book to be, I am getting tired of perfect heroes and heroines. Why can't heroines be 40ish and slightly overweight? Or heroes be balding? Maybe the escape wouldn't be as effective if the protagonists were too similar to the reader? I'd love to hear what you think.

Ellie was happy for a break. Max followed her into the house. While Ellie ran upstairs, he went to check the front door. He was pleased to find that her father had locked it. He stood at the bottom of the stairs waiting for her when he heard the scream.
